Stay a while
Today we launched the first Pause Pod cluster, located on the forecourt of Bankstown Arts Centre !
Pause Pods invite people to stop a while. They are a kindly reminder that streets are public space, for people and community.
Cities are busy places. Our urban environments become dominated by private ownership, traffic priorities, and streamlined by engineers. Pause Pods push back against that pressure. They invite locals to tune-in to their community: sit, talk, watch, be watched.
TLA: BUA | Client: Canterbury Bankstown Council | Location: Bankstown town centre | Pics: RDO, CRD | More info below.
Each Pod is made and installed to give attachment to the community and its location. Embedded within Pods are visual messages from local kids. Each cluster is embellished in-situ by a local artist, with participation from passers by. We ask all the contributors to imagine the future of their city.
The concrete used is surplus from building sites, otherwise dumped as waste.
Pause Pods is a collaboration with Cred Consulting. Pods are expertly constructed by Structum. The artist for this site is Tiera Boo.
